Compared to store bought soap, Diamond’s handmade soap is very mild and made from vegetable-based oils, such as olive, coconut, and palm, and does not contain the potentially harmful chemicals found in conventional bar soap. Both the chemical hardeners found in most commercial soap, and the additive softeners needed to retain the viscosity of shampoos are proven to have skin-drying and other adverse effects on the sensitive skin of dogs (and other living things!)

One of the biggest differences between commercial soap and handmade soap is glycerin. Glycerin is a clear liquid that absorbs water from the air and is a key factor in keeping skin soft and healthy. Glycerin soap is especially good for sensitive and delicate skin. In the process of making soap, glycerin is created, and as a high quality (and high value) by-product of the process, many mass commercial soap manufacturers extract the glycerin and sell it to be used in higher priced products like lotions and skin creams.
